In all the old versions of MYOB, it was impossible to enter Japanese characters, which probably didn’t bother most users in Australia but was a little frustrating for us in Japan. On the other hand, old versions of MYOB have tended to work better for us than in Australia as most new features were tax and payroll related which are of limited use in Japan. Well, MYOB has now been rewritten on a different code base to allow for future cloud migration which has brought with it some new features which will help Japanese users, not least that MYOB now accepts Japanese characters!
You can enter Japanese characters in just about every field in the program, including the accounts list, cards, invoices and customized invoices. Have a look at this simple invoice I customized to see what I mean.
If you want to use this new feature you will first have to upgrade to AccountRight Basics, Standard, Plus or LiveAccounts and I recommend that you download a trial version first to test it.
Confusingly, the latest version of AccountRight Premier, v 19, is still running on the old code and so does not accept Japanese characters. I imagine MYOB are working on rewriting Premier on the new code but I don’t know when it will be released.
So now you can learn 日本語 and do your bookkeeping all at the same time!
